Fred Parker, getting the most out of his new R1150GS
I had a friend the other day ask me how I could take a brand new bike and trash it by riding in the woods...sand pit...mud... and the other day snow.   Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh  what fun it is.   I have been riding this thing on every piece of dirt I can find.  mind you I am not very good at it yet.  The first thing you need to learn is the DIVE-TUCK-ROLL maneuver.  I, with much practice, have perfected this most difficult maneuver.  I have made several modifications to the bike and added a camera.  I do have some video from the dirt track that MAX BMW has out back.         Fred

Yankee Beemers European Motorcycle Day 10/13/02
Despite inclement weather at least a dozen riders from the club made the trip to Boston for the Yankee Beemers European Motorcycle Day at the Larz Anderson Transportation Museum.  BMW had their new R1200CL on display and Ducati showcased their new 999. As always a tremendous variety of European bikes were on display, and in many cases the mounts ridden by attendees were as interesting as those entered for display.

GNBMW Riders Fall Foliage Ride
Several of our members rode to Rangeley after the October club meeting in order to join the GNBMW Riders for their Fall Foliage Ride. Chuck Schultz led a group via route 4 but with several back road detours. Despite early concerns the weather was great although the temperature dropped as we got closer to our destination.  Bob Collin with Sharon on pillion and Howard Feller joined Chuck Schultz, Bob Griffin and Mike Cocks at the campground. About a dozen riders from Northern Maine attended, and after a frosty start the campers met Steve Garrett & Jan Iserbyt at the Peoples Choice Restaurant for breakfast.

Our thanks go to the GNBMW Riders for inviting us to join them, and for their gracious hospitality.

March of Dimes Ride September 22nd, 2002
Paul Emerson, John Tubb, Jim Salisbury, Bob Griffin, Mike Kearney, Steve Garrett and Mike Cocks participated in the 2002 March of Dimes Ride. Six police riders escorted a diverse group on a circuitous route from the Hannaford parking lot at exit 10 to Winslow Park in Freeport.  Although I do not have an accurate head count an estimated fifty riders took part and almost eight thousand dollars were raised.  Special thanks to Steve Garrett and Jim Salisbury, Steve marked the route, organized the club’s participation and assisted with the raffle, while Jim followed the riders in his Jeep with trailer in tow, ready to act as a recovery or breakdown vehicle.

Helen's Restaurant, Machias
On Sunday September 8th Jim Salisbury, the ride leader, Dave Stone, Steve Garrett, Dave Eskelund and Bob Griffin rode to Helen’s Restaurant in Machias. The group met Bill Parker for breakfast at Denny's in Brunswick then headed north over some beautiful backcountry roads. The return trip was via the Airline and 95. Bob Griffin probably had the longest ride logging around five hundred miles.

John Tubb’s project bike.
The bike is a 1976 R75/6 that I pulled out of a barn in March, were it has been sitting since 1993!  The bike had most recently been used as a sawhorse and had not been started since the owner had kids, wife didn't like it:( Several months later and a lot of help from the members the old bike is back on the road.  This is my first BMW although I have a lot of experience with Japanese bikes from my collage days.  I mainly followed the manual, and got some great advise.  I've got about 800 miles on it as of May and use it as a daily rider to and from work.  I plan to do a few things this winter including painting the fairing to match the blue and replace the front rotor.  There is always something to putter on:)
